Yesterday (05/01/09), Mal Meninga one of Autralian Rugby League icon was invited by PJV Gold Mine into Porgera Valley to promote HIV/AIDs awareness to PJV employees as well as people living in and around the Porgera Valley.

Arriving on a chopper from Mt Hagen, Western Highlands Province, Mal Meninga wasted no time in getting into talking about HIV/AIDS in general as well as what can be done here in Papua New Guinea to combat its effects. In his HIV/AIDS message to the employees of the Mine Department of Porgera, Mal stressed the importance of using condoms as the most effective way of avoiding HIV/AIDS during sex.

While PJV can be congratulated for playing its part in this part of PNG, the question that everyone should be asking is: What is the real problem contributing to the ever increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases despite millions of kina and effort put in by govt,NGOs and donor agencies?
